It is a three-dimensional structure of the skin, created from a simple blood sample and cultivated in a laboratory. It reproduces the architecture and functioning of the skin with remarkable precision. As it develops, the organoid becomes a kind of miniature organ, even developing hair follicles.

It all starts with a simple blood test. We isolate blood cells, which are genetically reprogrammed to become induced pluripotent stem cells (iPS), meaning they can become any cell in the human body—including skin cells. A stem cell is a bit like a mother cell. They are then cultured to reproduce healthily. It takes just a few days for these stem cells to interact with each other and assemble to form a three-dimensional structure that mimics the different layers and functions of the skin : an epidermis, a dermis, a dermo-epidermal junction, and hair follicles. The entire process takes an average of four months. It's revolutionary.

This is an extremely innovative practice that allows us to explore cell regeneration. Laboratoires Botanique Avancée (LBA) is the first cosmetics brand to do so. Active ingredients are generally tested on reconstructed skin or skin explants. But organoids—usually used in medicine—have many advantages. They are stable for much longer, up to several weeks, compared to only a few days for conventional testing platforms. Another important point is that this allows us to target the donor precisely. Ultimately, we will surely be able to move towards personalized cosmetics, where patients will have their own skin organoids, designed from their own cells. This will enable us to formulate truly tailor-made skincare products that promote longevity .

We are seeking to identify which active ingredients will be most effective, in order to understand which genes will respond to the application of NEO-REGEN. Everything is tested simultaneously, then analyzed. We are focusing particularly on the 12 hallmarks of aging. With these more advanced tests, we are redefining the very essence of cosmetics. But they are also part of fundamental research and are intended to advance regenerative medicine as a whole. The long-term goal is to be able to recreate organs for perfect transplants.
