What is a cosmetic product?
A cosmetic product is formulated to improve the appearance and condition of the skin without altering its deep biological structure—
—in the medical sense of the term. At Laboratoires Botanique Avancée,
we have chosen to go beyond this definition. Our skincare products are designed to work in harmony with
the skin’s natural regenerative mechanisms—not to bypass them, but to
reactivate them.
This is what we call regenerative cosmetics: an approach that views the skin
as living tissue, capable of renewing itself when supported by the right active ingredients.
Which products are considered cosmetics?
Creams, serums, lotions, oils, cleansers, eye creams—any product applied to the skin
without a therapeutic purpose falls into the category of cosmetics. What distinguishes the formulas
from one another is the nature and concentration of the active ingredients they contain.

What ingredients should you avoid in cosmetics?
Some ingredients, although widely used, deserve closer scrutiny: silicones, which
create a film-forming effect without actually nourishing the skin; PEGs (polyethylene glycols), which
can compromise the skin barrier; endocrine disruptors found in certain
preservatives; and harsh synthetic fragrances.
At LBA, formulation is as much an ethical decision as it is a scientific one. Our skincare products are
free of silicones and PEGs, and composed of 95–96% naturally derived ingredients.
Each active ingredient is evaluated using biological models of rare precision—human skin explants
and three-dimensional organoids—to ensure that it truly contributes to the health of the
skin tissue.
Are there any downsides to cosmetics?
The cosmetics industry is not without its gray areas. A largely unregulated market allows many
brands to formulate products with underdosed active ingredients, unproven claims, or
questionable ingredients presented under reassuring names. The confusion between “natural” and “
” effective, between “luxury” and “performance,” and between high prices and true quality is fueled by
marketing tactics that are often more sophisticated than the science behind them.
Our response to these practices lies in our method: formulas tested on living tissue,
clinically measured results, and total transparency regarding active ingredients and their origins. We
believe that doubt is legitimate—and that evidence is the only worthy response to it.
