The Botanical Heritage of Domaine de Baulieu

In the heart of the Aix-en-Provence region lies the Domaine de Baulieu, a 300-hectare botanical sanctuary situated on Provence’s only volcano. Its basalt soil is irrigated by two springs with rejuvenating properties.

At its center stands Villa Baulieu, a residence built in the 16th century, now an Airelles Maison d’Exception. A true historical treasure, the Domaine de Baulieu a world apart, where heritage, nature, and the art of living come together in perfect harmony.

Botanical heritage

The Domaine de Baulieu long Domaine de Baulieu the world’s leading botanists. Among them was Joseph Pitton de Tournefort, a Provençal botanist who served King Louis XIV. It is to him that we owe the world’s first botanical classification and a herbarium of over 9,000 species, now housed at the National Museumheritage in Paris (MNHN).

We are continuing this legacy as a patron of the MNHN by supporting a vast project to restore and digitize historical herbariums, in order to pass on this heritage to future generations.

our study gardens

It is in the heart of Domaine de Baulieu we have set up our laboratories and our two experimental gardens. The first, the Jardin des Simples, pays homage to the medicinal plants of yesteryear, used in pharmacopoeia.

The second is the Laboratory Garden. Lilies , peonies, and other flowers are grown there in study plots before being transformed into raw materials for scientific and cosmetic work in the laboratories.

craftsmanship of excellence

The refillable cases for Laboratoires Botanique Avancée (LBA) skincare products are designed to be truly exceptional objects, built to stand the test of time.

To create them, we called on French designer Arnaud Lapierre and , for their manufacture, French artisans of excellence. The recyclable glass bottles and jars are created in Normandy by a Living Heritage Company ( EPV label). Each cap, crafted in the Jura region, is hand-polished and requires up to fifteen days of meticulous work. Each piece is unique.

Covered by two patents, these cases hold a refill aluminum refill that is portable and infinitely recyclable.
